Carer's Allowance

£76.75 a week if you care for someone at least 35 hours a week and they get certain benefits.

• You do not have to be related to, or live with, the person you care for.
• You do not get paid extra if you care for more than one person.
• If someone else also cares for the same person as you, only one of you can claim Carer's Allowance.
• Earnings must be £139 or less per week in the original note. Check the current GOV.UK threshold before relying on this.

Universal Credit

Universal Credit is a payment to help with your living costs. It is paid monthly, or twice a month for some people in Scotland.

You may be able to get it if you are on a low income, out of work, or cannot work.

Council Tax Support

If someone living at your address is permanently disabled, you might be able to get a discount on your council tax.

One of the following must apply for a discount to be granted:

• The disabled person uses a wheelchair indoors.
• The property has a second bathroom or kitchen for the use of the person with the disability.
• A room in the property is used for a special purpose, for example dialysis.

Family Fund

You can apply for a grant once every 2 years. They may pay for household goods, laptops, holidays, and other things that would help your family.

Carers Leeds

You can apply for a break for carers grant, to pay for days out or holidays for carers or carers and family.

Caudwell Children

You can apply for sensory packs at large discounts.

Max Card

Apply through Carers Leeds. The original note says there was a £3 charge for a card offering discounts on days out and free carer tickets.

CEA Card

This card entitles a disabled cinema guest to receive a complimentary ticket for someone to go with them.

The original note says the applicant must be 5 or over and in receipt of DLA or PIP, with a £6 charge. Check the current CEA Card rules before applying.

Discounts for Carers

This website gives carers codes for discounts at many shops, days out and holidays.

Most places will offer a discounted ticket for guests with disabilities or their carer. Before you go, it is worth checking whether they offer a disability/carer discount or accept the Max Card, and then deciding which is the best option.

These discounts may not always be advertised, so always ask and see what they can offer.
